Alfred Whitlow was the godly epitome of marriage, fatherhood, and financial success. A man of little words, Alfred focused on what was important – Faith, Family, and Career. He was the last of four children born to the late James Whitlow and Beulah W. Elllex (oldest brother Charles preceded him in death). He grew up attending the Greater Second Mount Olive Baptist Church where he accepted Jesus as his savior at an early age.
A rather studious young man, he attended Dougherty County public schools while learning to play the piano as early as 5 years old. He later became a “Tornado” graduating from Monroe High School in 1967. Alfred did not end his education there. He attended Albany State University and earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration in 1970. He began his career in various part-time entities prior to becoming a Customer Service Representative at Georgia Pacific, Inc., where he retired after 32 years of service. After retirement, he re-entered the workforce as the Office Manager of Anita Williams Tax Service.
God guided him to the love of his life, Gussie M. Lowe, and they were married on February 28, 1971. Through this union, four daughters were born: Africa Ladelia, Frederia Michelle, Kenya Maria, and Victoria Denise. With his wife and family by his side, he played piano, organ, and keyboard while directing church choirs all over the Southwest Georgia area. Along with his wife, he trained his girls to become melodious singers known as The Whitlow Family. After playing for many years, Alfred decided to support his wife’s pastoral leadership by becoming a member of The Church of the Kingdom of God, Inc., where he served as minister of music.
God called Alfred Whitlow home to be with him on April 16, 2020. He leaves to continue his legacy his wife of 48 years, Gussie M. L. Whitlow; four daugh-ters, Africa (Zachary Sr.) Jackson, Frederia (Vincent) Sampson, Victoria Whitlow of Albany, and Kenya (Fabion) Watson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two siblings, James Whitlow and Dr. Mahasin Majied of Albany, GA; five grandchildren, Alfree (Christopher Sr.) James, Zachary Jackson, Jr., Tyrone Robinson, Jr. of Albany, GA, Sade Watson and Fabion Watson of Ft. Lauder-dale, FL; five BELOVED great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
