Angela Griffin Allen, the beloved daughter of the late William and Ollie Mae McKenzie, was born at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia on January 2, 1952. She was peacefully called home to her Master on the afternoon of November 29, 2025, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. Angela attended Paul Vance Elementary School in Byronville, Georgia. She was a proud graduate of Vienna High Industrial School Class of 1970. She then matriculated to Albany State College (now Albany State University) where she majored in Nursing. That is where she met her soon-to-be husband, Mr. Joseph L. Allen. Joseph and Angela married on July 1, 1978, and to that union a daughter was born, Anita LaShun Allen Jackson.
Angela was a faithful worker. She dedicated 32 years of service to the Waffle House. After which, she went to work for the Dougherty County School System in the Food and Nutrition Department. She worked there for 12 years before retiring on June 1, 2023.
Angela loved the Lord and was a true servant of God. She accepted Christ at an early age at Little Popular Springs Baptist Church in Byronville, Georgia. She later joined Mount Zion Baptist Church of Albany, Georgia, in 1978. She sang in the Voices of Zion Choir and was a Sunday School teacher for several years. She was also a very active member of the General Missionary Ministry in Circles 4 and 5 and the Deaconess Ministry.
Angela was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ollie Mae McKenzie Griffin; and her brothers, John Henry Griffin, Lee Griffin, and Johnny Hickson.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband, Joseph L. Allen; daughter, Anita LaShun (Andrè) Jackson; brothers, Melvin (Stacy) Griffin, and Andre (Blanche) Griffin; sisters, Anita (George) Purvis (Angela’s twin sister), Sharon (Robert) Martin, and Beverly Hickson; four grandchildren, Sanaa Zhanè Jackson, Samson Assad Jackson, Hannibal Mosiah Jackson, and Yuna Benèt Jackson; goddaughter, Kiamber Edwards; a special devoted friend, Mrs. Shirley Pless Wesley; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Angela will be remembered for her generous heart and her unwavering faith in God. Though she has transitioned from labor to reward, her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
