Ben Thomas Obituary

Deacon Ben Thomas, Sr. was born on March 15, 1927, to the late Rev. Johnson and Mollie Thomas Pickle of Leesburg, Georgia. After 94 years, he departed this life on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

He accepted Christ under the leadership of Rev. Jake Edwards, Jr. He was a very active and dedicated member of the First Mount Olive Baptist Church and served several years as chairman of the deacons' ministry. Deacon Thomas was a devoted member and was dedicated to the vision and leadership of Pastor G. C. Sanders, Sr. Deacon Thomas served the Lord faithfully and loved his church and pastor. He had a caring heart for others and was a true soldier of the cross.

He was employed by Flint Beverage Company for 48 years as a truck driver and forklift operator until he retired.

Deacon Thomas was united in holy matrimony on June 12, 1948, to Catherine Williams Thomas, and they have been attached for 73 years. To this union, 12 children were born, Albert Williams (Philadelphia, PA), Ben Thomas, Jr., Rena Thomas, Deacon Rubin (Shelia) Thomas, Ruby Thomas, Patricia Thomas, Cecil Leon (Carrie) Thomas, Melvin Thomas, Patricia (Michael) Thomas Chandler, Carolyn T. (Rev. Richard) Jones, Janice T. Hall, and Mary L. Thomas. He loved the outside and loved to cook for his family. 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Katie Mae Keaton; son, Ben Thomas, Jr.; daughter, Patricia Thomas; brother-in-law, Albert Williams; and sisters-in-law, Mattie W. Washington (George) and Eva Williams.

The love and legacy of his life will live forever in the hearts of his wife; his children; his daughter-in-law, Alice M. Thomas; brother-in-law, James Williams; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
