Mother Catherine Williams Thomas was born on June 8, 1927, to the late Clem and Pearlie Butler Williams. After 94 blessed years on this earth, she departed this life on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
She accepted Christ under the leadership of Rev. Jake Edwards, Jr. Under his leadership, she became a deaconess and the Mother of the Church. Later, Pastor Gary C. Sanders, Sr. became her leader, and he reappointed her to the same positions.
Mrs. Thomas attended Madison High School from 9th grade through 12th grade. She later attended the vocational school for nurse’s aid training. She worked in that field for a while. Additionally, Mother Thomas enjoyed working with her flowers.
Mother Thomas was united in holy matrimony on June 12, 1948, to the late Deacon Ben Thomas, Sr., and they were attached for 73 years. To this union, 12 children were born, two of whom predeceased her, Albert Williams (Philadelphia, PA), Ben (Alice) Thomas, Jr. (deceased), Rena Thomas, Deacon Rubin (Shelia) Thomas, Ruby Thomas, Cecil Leon (Carrie) Thomas, Patricia Thomas (deceased), Melvin Thomas, Patricia (Michael) Chandler, Carolyn T. (Rev. Richard) Jones, Janice T. Hall, and Mary L. Thomas.
Also preceding her in death were her brother, Albert Williams, and sister, Mattie Williams Washington.
The love and legacy of her life will live forever in the hearts of her children, 3 daughters-in-law, 2 sons-in-law; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
