Clara Hall Obituary

On Thursday, April 9, 2020, God dispatched an angel from heaven to guide a faithful servant, Clara M. Hall, to heaven ’s gate.

Mrs. Clara M. Hall was the eleventh of thirteen children born on February 18, 1937, to the late Mathis and Ethel Murray of Arlington, Georgia. Her parents and eleven siblings (Jimmie, Sylvester, LeRoy, Willie, Mattie, Mary, Rebecca, Louise, Marie, Cleveland, and Dorothy) preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hall attended grade school in Calhoun County. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Fort Valley State University (College) where she received a BS degree in Education. She began her teaching career in the Calhoun County School System, then later moved to Worth County. While teaching she obtained her Master of Education degree from Georgia State University. She had a fulfilling career as a fourth - grade reading teacher in the Dougherty County School System (Martin Luther King, Jr., Elementary School). She retired after 32 years of service.

Mrs. Hall accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of Turner Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Edison, Georgia. When her family moved to Arlington, she joined Mt. Ebel Baptist Church. After relocating to Albany, Mrs. Hall joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church and was a devoted, long -time member, serving in many capacities: Co -Chairperson of Bethel ’s Class Leaders, President of the Lillie S. Page Service Club, Corresponding Secretary of the Women ’s Missionary Society, and member of both the Christian Education Department and the Bethel Food Bank. For years, with occasional assistance from her husband, she designed and displayed thought -provoking topical/seasonal bulletin boards that captured the attention of the membership. Mrs. Hall also was a gifted Bible scholar and enjoyed studying and engaging in stimulating exchanges in weekly Bible study classes, for which she was always prepared. She was a devoted instructor/tutor for the Bethel Housing Complex Tutorial Program and member of the Bethel Housing Complex Board of Directors.

Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, William R. Hall, and her stepson, William (Dicky) Hall.

She leaves standing on the stormy banks of time mourning: a devoted son, Bertrond Hall (Avion) of Tallahassee, FL; four devoted stepdaughters – Paula Williams (Ruben) of Albany, Betty Holt (Tom) of Riverdale, GA, Charlene Shannon of Columbus, Ohio, and Helen McFarland (Joel) of Albany; three grandchildren – Precious, Domonique, and De ’Tron; a brother, Clarence Murray (Mary) of Fayetteville, GA; 25 more grandchildren, 43 great -grandchildren, and 26 great -great - grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
