Deacon Eddie "Pop" Wright, Sr. was born to the late Primus and Leola Wright in Baker County Georgia on a day of celebration, July 4, 1929. He was one of twelve siblings. He was preceded in death by his brothers; Jeff, Bonzell, Willie Bee, Robert, Randolph, Adolph, Rudolph, and sisters; Marie, Eva and Louise. On August 10, 2020 after 91 years of labor, Pop claimed his reward in Heaven with no hesitation!
Pop met and married the love of his life, Bessie Raybon Wright. He fathered seven children,
three went on before him; Essie Lyons, Aaron Wright, and Rev. Eddie Wright, Jr. When they
reunite with their earthly father, what a reunion it is going to be!
Pop attended school but eventually sacrificed his education to help his family. Though he did not graduate, he was determined to learn as much as he could and he spent nights with his children teaching him. He bragged about the education that his children obtained and he constantly stressed its importance.
At an early age, he joined the New Zion Hill Baptist Church. He was so proud when he was ordained as a deacon. He took on this task with pride and served faithfully until his health failed. His soul stirring prayers uplifted bowed heads and before the people would say Amen, he would seal every prayer with, "God bless America". Pop said what he said and truly meant what he said. He made sure his children knew how important it was to be a strong family unit. "The only way you can make it in life, is to develop a true relationship with God", he stressed!
As a supervisor, Pop worked for 35 years at Lilliston. When the plant closed, the company asked him to help them set up in Selma, Alabama and he proudly accepted. Before Lilliston moved the company, Pop worked days at Lilliston and nights at a fertilizer company. When he retired, he filled a void by helping out at Elliott Funeral Home. They became part of the family. When he was not working, he found relaxation in fishing and hunting.
Deacon Eddie "Pop" Wrfght, Sr. leaves to cherish many, many wonderful memories, his wife Bessie Raybon Wright, children; Doris (John) McDay, Annie( Robert) Clay, Theotis (Betty) Wright, and Laura (George) Miller all of Albany, Ga.
