On a balmy Wednesday, October 8, 1947, at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains, New York, Deacon Blair M. Minter and Deacon Lillian V. Cliett Minter were blessed to welcome fraternal twin sons into this world. The firstborn was named Robert Thomas Minter, whose homegoing we celebrate. On a warm Southern Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia, God called Robert Thomas Minter, Sr. to eternal rest.
Deacon Robert spent his early childhood in North Tarrytown (now Sleepy Hollow), New York on the very popular Clinton Street. He was formally educated both in the public schools of the Tarrytowns and high school in Ossining, New York. He was also nurtured from infancy, in the New Hope Institutional Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ at an early age.
Deacon Robert completed his high school degree while pursuing a career in the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War, where he became an accomplished builder. At the same time, unbeknown to him and others, the weapon of Agent Orange began its attack on his future health.
Deacon Robert enjoyed a full, rich, and colorful life. He loved to dance, to entertain anyone at any time with his gift of comedy – jokes, storytelling, and the like. Even during his recent hospital stay, he managed to bring smiles and laughter. One of his most enjoyable times spent was singing gospel songs loudly and with feeling, especially with his cherished wife.
During the past few decades, Deacon Robert struggled with diabetes and kidney problems. He never complained because he was so busy enjoying life, family, and laughter. He loved playing spades and Scrabble. Deacon Robert left a huge impact on those who he came into contact; no one was a stranger.
Deacon Robert now rests with those loved ones who predeceased him – parents, Deacons Blair and Lillian Minter; son, Robert Thomas Minter, Jr.; and daughter, Kimberly Dawson-Blanton. He is survived by his God-fearing, cherished, beloved, and dedicated wife, Deacon Rebecca Dawson Minter; his sons, Michael Maurice Minter (Mariyah) and Kevin Lamar Minter (Nikki); his daughter, Shannon Nicole-Blaire Minter (Kelfy); his grandchildren, Kayla & Khemani; Akani & Mehsahnee; Rashard, Damian, Jasmine, Blair, Jordan, Hallie, Robert, Alex, Madison, Logan, and Kinley; his sisters, Carolyn and Grace; his brothers, Richard (Sharon Foster), Maurice (Stephanie), and Michael; one aunt, Gloria Reynolds of Macon, Georgia; his god-daughter, Sandrina Thomas, and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and sorrowing friends.
As Deacon Robert Thomas Minter, Sr. joins a host of smiling, welcoming angels, those left here on earth have beautiful and blessed memories to carry us for the remainder of our lives. To God be the Glory, forever and evermore.
