Obituary

Edith Rogers Bennett, a loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, Confidant, and Friend, departed this earthly life on Friday, September 17, 2021.

Edith’s life journey began on March 16, 1951, in Mitchell County, GA, as the youngest daughter of the late Richard and Jeanette Rogers.

A graduate of Camilla Consolidated High School in 1969, Albany State College in 1974, and Valdosta State College in 1979, Edith demonstrated excellence in everything. A natural-born educator, she nurtured many children in Lowndes County, Tift County, and Dougherty County for 35 years. Edith had a major impact on her students and her colleagues receiving many awards: Star Teacher, Teacher-of-the-Year, and Congressional Recognition by Congressman Sanford Bishop.

At an early age, she confessed her life to Christ. In her youth, she served at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Mitchell County, GA, and after she relocated to Albany, she was an active member of 1st Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Edith later served faithfully in many capacities at Higher Heights Fellowship Ministries, Albany, GA, until her death.

She was united in holy matrimony to Benjamin Bennett and to this union, two children were born: Derek B. Bennett, and Demetric A. Bennett.

Edith taught by example encouraging others as she lived; she was loved and respected by many. She leaves to cherish her memory and to continue her legacy, children: Derek (Vangie), Demetric (Courtney), Bernard, Yada, Keith, Donald (Tiffany), and Monique; siblings: Elgin, Millard (Mary), and Raymond (Lyndora) Rogers, Rosalee Tyson, and Mildred Wimberly; grandchildren: Derek James, Darion, Demetric Jr., Caylee, Daphne, Tony, Keith, Jeremy, Keyshawn, Jakiya, Andonnis, Keilan, Tyler, Payton, Amari, and Janiya. Also, to cherish her precious memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Mamie, General Dillard, Andrew Jackson, Gene, Ginger, and Corine.
