Mr. Edward James Jackson, son of the late Ms. Alma Fields and Mr. Willie Buddy Mims, was born on September 15, 1953, in Albany, Georgia. During his formative years as well as his teens, he was educated in the Lee County School System, ultimately graduating from Lee County High School.
Throughout Edward’s life, mostly lived in his home of Atlanta, Georgia, he solidified himself as a calculable, consistent and hardworking man. Amongst the titles he held, which included skilled production manufacturer assistant, joining the United States Army by which he became a veteran was one he was extremely proud of.
Devoted, trustworthy, constant, infallible are a few words to describe the character of Edward. Affectionately named Uncle Shaft, James, or just Shaft, he was the calming voice during a storm; a level head amid confusion; and the comic relief when things became too heavy. He was loved by all; challenged by few; and revered by many. Family was paramount to him as he made sure his loved ones were taken care of and loved unconditionally.
Edward James peacefully transitioned on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at his home in Albany, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his two elder sisters, Ms. Juanita Fields and Mrs. Mildred J. Fields; and his brother, Solomon Fields.
Edward James “Shaft” Jackson leaves to mourn and honor his legacy, an adoring wife, Mary Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia; his two children, Omar Jackson (Shana Mayer) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Zhané Anderson of Albany, Georgia; brother, Willie J. Fields (Ora) of Albany, Georgia; sisters, Evelyn Fields of Savannah, Georgia and Geneva Mims of Albany, Georgia; brother, Jesse Mims of Albany, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
