Mr. Edward Thompson went home to his eternal rest on Wednesday, April 22, 2025, after a brief illness with cancer. He was born February 17, 1957, in New York, NY, to Ida Gaylord and Edward Thompson and was educated in the New York Public School System. He was also accomplished in martial arts and was the first to receive a black belt from his uncle, Grandmaster Gaylord. Edward was best known for his devotion to his family and children. He had a great sense of humor, which will be missed by young and old alike who enjoyed his quick wit and funny jokes. Edward's personality and warmth brought joy to everyone he encountered. He enjoyed board games with family and anyone who would play and, as the eternal optimist, always thought he would win! Above all, he was a devoted husband and companion to his loving wife, Patricia, of 28 years. He often said his marriage to Patricia was the greatest decision he ever made. His legacy will live on in the many children and grandchildren he left behind. Inspiring others throughout his life with his kindheartedness, generosity, and humor, his unforgettable spirit will be carried forth by those who loved him best.
Edward is survived by his loving wife and faithful companion and caregiver, Patricia Thompson of Albany; his mother, Ida Gaylord of New York; two sons, Darryl Wily (Antwonette) and Derrick White of Albany; and a daughter, Teresa White of Albany. He is also survived by his brother, Warren Thompson; and sisters, Tianna Thompson Henderson and Elena Bellamy. Other siblings include Patricia Richardson, Robert Montesi, Donald Montesi, Roxaine Montesi, Justice Thompson, and Joshua Thompson. He was predeceased by his father, Edward Thompson of New York. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and many other loving relatives.
