Elizabeth Robinson Mitchell was born on November 16, 1939, in Graves, GA (Terrell County), the last child of Sim and Rena Robinson. In 1962, Elizabeth graduated with honors from Fort Valley State College, receiving a B.S. degree in English with a minor in French, which she spoke so eloquently both in and outside of the classroom.

On June 18, 1962, Elizabeth was joined in Holy Matrimony to General Fred Mitchell. Their marriage lasted 36 years, until his death. To this union, three sons and two daughters were born.

Elizabeth taught for over 35 years in the Terrell, Baker, and Dougherty County School Systems, teaching last at Westover Comprehensive High School. After retiring in the year 2000, she became a member of the Dougherty County Retired Educators Association.
