Ella Louise Miller was born on August 15, 1926, to the late Mr. Willie Washington, Sr. and Mrs. Louise Washington in Eufaula, Alabama. She was the oldest of her parents' two children. As a young child, Ella resided in Columbus, Georgia, before moving to Albany, Georgia. She attended Dougherty County schools and graduated from Madson High School in 1938.
She married the love of her life, Allen Peterson Miller, Sr. Born to this union were three sons: Allen Peterson Miller, Jr., Donald Miller, and Michael Wayne Miller.
Ella continued her education at Albany State College, graduating in 1959 with a baccalaureate degree in elementary education. She graduated from Fort Valley State College obtaining a master's degree in education and a post-master's certificate in library science. Ella was an educator in the Dougherty County School System for 26 years until her retirement in 1986. She was a lifetime member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association and an emeritus member of the Dougherty County Retired Educators. Ella was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
Ella was a dedicated and active member of Hines Memorial C.M.E. Church. She often spoke of how much she loved the Lord, and how good God was to her throughout her life. She served as a stewardess emeritus, missionary emeritus, and a Sunday School teacher.
Ella was active in the community. She was an organizer of the Weed & Seed program for the Albany Community Garden and also worked as a volunteer with Keep Albany-Dougherty County Beautiful. Ella received the Martin Luther King, Jr. Dream Award in 2009 and Phoebe Volunteer of the Year Award in 2011.
She was preceded to eternity by her husband; her sons, Allen Peterson Miller, Jr., and Michael Wayne Miller; her parents, and her brother, Willie Washington, Jr.
She leaves to cherish memories of her: son, Mr. Donald Miller; grandchildren: Ms. Escolethia Shawond Miller, Mrs. Latoya Miller-Webb, Mr. Decorey Miller, and Mr. Cedric Miller; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mrs. Jaunita Miller; cherished friends, Mrs. Louie Marshall and Mrs. Wendy Edwards; a host of relatives, a church family, sorors, and friends.
