ELLIS CHARLES TROUTMAN, SR. died Sunday, June 25, 2023. Ellis was born in Terrell County, Georgia, to Lucy Harrold Troutman and Allen Troutman. He attended Dougherty County schools and graduated from Monroe High School in 1961. He majored in music at Albany State (College) University and served as a high school band director and music teacher. He was a professional musician who played in numerous bands and with notable artists, including Clarence Carter, Seal Johnson, Jesse Boone & the Astros, Arthur Conley, and Candi Staton. He also worked at Sears, Kmart, and he retired from Turner Job Corps. He was also a fervent photographer for special occasions and for the joy of it.
On July 19, 1964, Ellis married Ocie Wilson. To that union, 3 children were born: Ellis “Charles” Troutman, Jr., Ellise Charless Troutman, and Angela Troutman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Angela Troutman; and his brother, Louis “Bill” Troutman.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Ocie; his children, Charles and Ellise; daughter-in-law, Carla Toson Troutman; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Bettye Troutman Gardner; brothers-in-law, Johnny Gardner and Jules Ellerson; and sisters–in–law, Grace Wilson Ellerson, and Mary Wilson Perkins.
