Gladys Mosely Obituary

Mrs. Gladys Mae Wilson Mosely was born November 20, 1951, in Helena, Arkansas, to the late Gennie Williams and Adolphus Wilson.  She spent her formative years being reared by her uncle and aunt, George and Sally Lewis, in Memphis, Tennessee. Gladys will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a dear friend to many.

At an early age, she accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Upon marrying and moving to Albany, Georgia, Gladys became a member of Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Leesburg, GA, where she served faithfully in the choir ministry and as a deaconess.  She later became a member of Oakridge Baptist Church, Albany, GA, serving faithfully as a deaconess, member of the choir, and Sunday School teacher until her health prevented her from active participation.

Gladys attended Shelby County Public Schools in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating from Manassas High School in 1970.  She attended Albany State College in pursuit of her nursing degree but put her career aspirations on hold to raise her family.  Gladys served as a school volunteer and paraprofessional for numerous years within the Dougherty County School System and later as a medical assistant at the Dougherty County Correctional Facility while also mentoring and ministering to inmates until she retired.

Gladys met her future husband, Mr. Elijah Mosely, Jr., in Little Rock, Arkansas while attending the National Baptist Training Union Congress.  They eventually would unite in holy matrimony on June 19, 1971.  Mr. Eliott Mosely, Sr., and Ms. Elicia Mosely Powell were born to this union.  Both children were taught about Christ at an early age and were greatly influenced by their parents’ spiritual faith and dedication to family.  Gladys was an avid reader of all literary genres. Eliott and Elicia fondly remember their Saturdays and summer breaks at the local community libraries with the requirement that each had to check out and read a book. They also credit their love for music to their mother introducing them to her collection of old 45 rpm vinyl records of classic R&B, soul, and gospel.  Both credit their accomplishments to their mother’s nurturing and insistence to not allow anything or anyone hinder their educational and professional aspirations.  She was most proud of her time volunteering in Dougherty County for the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign in 2007-2008.

Although Gladys was far away from her hometown, her welcoming spirit allowed her to acquire friendships that spanned years.  She was engaging and her friendship was treasured by many.  As her health declined in recent years, she never lost her faith in the Lord.  Gladys was called home from labor to reward on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital with her family by her side.

Gladys was preceded in death by her birth Mother, Ms. Gennie Williams; Father, Mr. Adolphus Wilson; Mother, Mrs.  Alberthia Wilson; Sister, Ms. Betty Wilson; and Brother, Mr. Edward Wilson; all whom she spoke of fondly. She is survived by her loving and devoted Husband of 53 years, Deacon Elijah Mosely, Jr; a devoted Son and Daughter, Eliott Mosely, Sr. and Elicia Mosely Powell, whom she loved dearly; devoted Daughter-in-Law, Dr. Sonya Mosely; loving Grandchildren, Mr. Eliott Mosely, Jr. and Ms. Elaina Mosely, both whom she was able to watch graduate from college via video this past May 2024; Brothers, Mr. Albert Wilson and Mr. Michael Wilson; Sisters, Mrs. Lillie Wilson Blackmon and Ms. Ruby Ann Wilson, all whom she cherished; Brothers-in-law, Deacon Julius Mosely, Mr. Orrie Mosely, Mr. Tommy Hightower, Rev. Eddie Wilson, and Deacon Jerome Menefee; Sisters-in-law, Mrs. Rosie Williams, Mrs. Margie Wilson, Ms. Catherine Mosely, Mrs. Pearlene Lucas, Mrs. Willa Menefee, Mrs. Mollie Taylor, Mrs. Valorie Mosely, Mrs. Beverly Mosely, and Mrs. Linda Wilson, all whom she loved. Gladys leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were all a part of her dear family.
