Harris Whitaker Obituary

A Time to Be Born: We pause today to praise God in His infinite wisdom for the life of Harris Whitaker, affectionately known as “Tank.” He was the eighth child and baby boy of the late Ivory Whitaker, Sr., and Geneva Benton Whitaker, born on June 8, 1957, in Albany, GA.

A Time to Aspire: Harris received his education in the Dougherty County School System graduating from Westover High School in 1975. He then attended Albany State College. He completed his certification in Auto Body Repair from Albany Technical School. In 1982, Harris joined the U. S. Army and retired after 22 years of military service. After retirement, he worked for 12 years at Fort Rucker Army Base in Fort Rucker, AL.

A Time for Love: Harris met the love of his life, Rosemary Randle, in the summer of 1973. They were joined in holy matrimony on November 24, 1979. Harris and Rosemary were blessed with three beautiful children and shared 43 years of love and happiness.

A Time to  Praise: Harris was a longtime member of Third Kiokee Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Levi Breedlove. Upon settling in Enterprise, AL, he became a member of Pleasant Shade Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E. Steven Richardson.

A Time to Weep: He was preceded in death by three siblings: brother, Acey Whitaker; sister, Carolyn Rivers, and brother, Nathaniel Whitaker.

A Time to Lament: His legacy of love and precious memories are left to his wife, Rosemary Whitaker, Enterprise, AL; his children: Jarvis (Tanisha) Whitaker, Augusta, GA, Rodney (Eneida) Whitaker, Sr., Kileen, TX, Shekeithia (Keith) McIntosh, Warner Robbins, GA; seven grandchildren: Emanual McIntosh, Mya Whitaker, Kelia McIntosh, Keiwaun Ashley, Taniya Whitaker, Rodney Whitaker, Jr., and Tristan Whitaker; siblings: Ivory (Vivian) Whitaker, Meridianville, AL, Willie (Gussie) Whitaker, Calvin (Lisa) Whitaker, Frederick (Saly) Whitaker, all of Albany, GA, and Valerie (Michael) Oliver, Lithonia, GA; five sisters-in-law: Sally Jean Whitaker, Albany, GA, Shirley Randle, Albany, GA, Regina (Henry) Jones, Macon, GA, Glory Randle (Tennessee), Kristi Randle, Albany, GA, and one brother-in-law: Gary (Lolita) Randle, Albany, GA. Harris also had a host of other relatives, church family and friends.
