Herbert Bowens, Sr., 79, of Albany, GA, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
He was a loving father, a devoted husband, and a man of God. He loved his wife and children immensely, providing support through all phases of their lives. He was God-fearing and led by example.
He graduated from Monroe High School and from Albany State College. He taught history at Monroe High School and earned a master’s degree in social work at the University of Georgia. He retired from the Dougherty County School System as the director of social work. It was commendable that he worked for 44 years.
He met his “crush” in Junior High School and married her in November 1962. He was a devoted husband to Jeanette Bowens for 58 years. They had three children, Angela, Herbert, Jr., and Jerri. He was a loving father and grandfather, who provided support to his children and grandchildren in achieving many accomplishments. All three of his children graduated from a college or a university and had been gainfully employed. His grandchildren excelled in school.
Herbert, Sr. was preceded in death by his mother, Clela Bell Bowens, his sisters, Lillian Blake and Lucy Watts, his brothers, Marvin, Cecil, Oscar, and Bill. There are many family members left to cherish his memory.
