Jimmie spent a period of time in the United States Army and retired from the construction industry decades ago. He spent his free time fishing in the pond near the old Veteran’s Club off Highland Avenue and strategically moving checkers to defeat worthy opponents. Jimmie was known as a pool shark among friends and acquaintances.
Jimmie will be fondly remembered by his wife, Easter Mae Hamilton. Their children include daughters, Willie Mae Mitchell, Florine Washington, and Robin K. Haymon. In addition, Jimmie leaves behind daughters Shelia Hamilton Odom and Sonya Bailey; son, Earl Sheppard; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; long-time friend, Ruby Williams, many accomplished checker players, and close friends.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Hamilton, and Florine (Daniels) Williams; sons, James Lee Hamilton and Keith Hamilton Sheppard; and great-grandsons, Abraham-Marcel Pierce and Joshua-Maliq Pierce. He cherished all these people in his own way.
