Johnny Lee Leggett Obituary

Pastor Johnny Lee Leggett, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sherman and Mary Louise Leggett, was born on April 17, 1953, in Blakely, Georgia. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Albany, GA. He attended the public schools of Dougherty County and graduated from Monroe High School in 1971. Up until his death, he was a proud Tornado. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and served proudly. Upon returning to Albany, he attended Albany State College where he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.; and after a short engagement, he married Connie Marks. It was during this time that he was called to the ministry. He accepted this call and served the Lord with unrelenting passion, compassion, and dedication. Pastor Leggett received a bachelor’s degree in ministry and a Master of Ministry degree from Bethany Bible College and Theological Seminary, Dothan, Alabama. On Saturday, November 2, 2024, he answered the call of God and departed this life.

Pastor Johnny and Connie are the proud parents of four children, grandparents of five granddaughters, and two great-grandsons. Throughout his tenure in ministry, Pastor Leggett lead multiple churches, including Shiloh Baptist Church (Dawson, GA) and Pleasant Temple Baptist Church (Valdosta, GA). In 1990, Pastor Leggett became the founder and overseer of the Abundant Life Fellowship Church and Ministries (Albany, GA). As a teacher and preacher, Pastor Leggett was both prophetic and foundational as he challenged believers to stand on the Word of God and to “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” He compelled many souls to submit their lives to God.

Pastor Johnny Lee Leggett was preceded in death by his loving father: Deacon Sherman Leggett, his mother: Missionary Mary Louise Leggett, his son: Rev. Johnny Marks Leggett, grandson: Cayson Leggett, sisters: Rosa Walker, Dorothy Shelton, and Doris Thomas; and brothers: Jerome David Leggett, Sherman Leggett, Bishop J. Wayne Leggett, and Jesse Leggett.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Marks Leggett, three daughters: Pastor Candice Leggett Hunt (Michael), Andrea Camille Leggett, Carmine Simone Leggett, and daughter-in-love, R. Nicole Terry Leggett. He also leaves to mourn, his grandchildren: Jayla Leggett, Caelyn Rowe (Zamarius), Kristin Hardiman, Camryn Leggett, and Carlee Hunter; and great-grandsons Bryce Jenkins and Zaiden Rowe. Pastor Leggett also leaves his beloved siblings Pastor Darrell L. Leggett (Natasha) and Maggie Davis (Willard), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the beloved members of the Abundant Life Fellowship Church family. We extend a special thank you to our cousin, Clifford Bronner, who served diligently and tirelessly as Pastor Leggett’s armor bearer and friend.
