Ms. Josephine Ellis Ferguson was born July 4, 1923, to the late Mr. Square and Addie Ellis in Leesburg, Georgia.
She received her formal education in the Lee County School System. As a young woman, she relocated to Albany, GA. Josephine was employed in the Dougherty County School System at Madison High School as a cafeteria worker. She later began her career at Bob’s Candy Kitchen. She was employed at Bob’s for over 20 years until her health started to decline. Josephine was united in Holy matrimony to the late Mr. John Ferguson Sr. They were blessed with five children.
“Sister” as she was affectionately known was raised in a Christian home where she was taught the Word of God and the importance of living a life of love and kindness. At the age of 12, she joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the General Missionary Society for many years; she supported the Pastor’s Aide Ministry, and was the oldest member.
On Saturday, May 22, 2021, while peacefully sleeping her 97-year-old journey ended as she transitioned to everlasting peace with the Lord. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, John Jr; daughter, Hope Ferguson Hamilton; brothers, Eddie Hicks, William Charles, and Charles William; sisters, Ann Ellis, and Addie Will Gibson.
Loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of her sons, Issac Ellis, Ezzard Ferguson; a loving, devoted daughter Sandra Ferguson; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
