Juanita Gilmore Obituary

Mrs. Juanita Green Gilmore is a native of Hillsborough County, Tampa, Florida. Born in 1922 is the daughter of Mr. Oozier Green and Mrs. Willie Mae Butler Green. As a small child she lived with her grandparents Mr. Spencer Green and his wife in Monticello, Florida until her Grandmother died and returned to live with her father. 


After returning to Tampa, Florida Mrs. Gilmore attended Middleton Senior High School where she graduated. Wanting to further here education she enrolled in Florida A & M University and earned her BS Degree in Home Economics. While attending Florida A & M University Juanita Green met Henry F. Gilmore and later married him in 1944. To this union they were blessed with 2 children, a son Ricardo and a daughter Rose. A few years later Mrs. Gilmore attended The University of Illinois where she received her Masters degree in Home Economics. 


Mrs. Gilmore has had several teaching professional jobs including, Crooms Academy in Sanford, Florida, Dunbar High School, Fort Myers, Florida and upon moving to Albany, Georgia in 1965 accepting a position with Dougherty County School System as a Reading and Material Media Center Specialist at the Material Center. After the Material Centers closed, she became a Librarian at Dougherty High school until she retired in 1994. 


Along with her love of hats and being known for her classic style, she was a member of several groups and organizations. Mrs. Gilmore was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Dougherty County Retired Teachers Association, National Educations Associations, DCAE and several others groups just to name a few. She was a longstanding member of Saint John & Saint Mark Episcopal Church. 


She leaves to celebrate her life, the 2 children she loved and adored, Atty. Ricardo Gilmore (spouse Mrs. Stephanie Brown-Gilmore) of Tampa, Florida and Mrs. Rose Gilmore Dunnum of Albany, Georgia. Grandchildren Dr. Rikkisha GIimore-Byrd (spouse Dr. Johnnie Byrd) of Melbourne, Florida, Mr. Andrey Dunnum (spouse Priscilla Jensen-Dunnum) of Pensacola, Florida, Dr. Reyna Gilmore Gordon (spouse Mr. Clarence Gordon) of Oncinnati, Ohio and Ms. Shaquita Brown of Tampa, Florida Great-grandchildren, Khalib Gilmore, Riyanna Byrd, Jonathan Byrd, Zane Dunnum and London-Skye Brown with a host of many relatives, friends and well wishers.
