According to Ecclesiastes

            To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heavens.

A Time to Be Born:

Julia Kate Lakes was born to the union of the late Roosevelt D. Lakes and the late Lula Bell Harvey-Lakes on March 15, 1947, in Dawson [Terrell] County, Georgia. Julia was the oldest child of this union and is survived by her brothers, Roosevelt and Larry Lakes.

A Time to Plant:

Sis. Julia Kate Lakes confessed a belief in the Lord at an early age and joined Tri-Star Baptist Church, Americus, Georgia. Upon relocating to Albany, Georgia, she joined Beulah Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. W. M. Davis and later Rev. J. C. Harris. She also served faithfully under the leadership of Rev. J. H. Reynolds. She was a member of the J. H. Reynolds Sanctuary Choir. In 2009, she joined the Union Missionary Baptist Church family under the leadership of Rev./Dr. John A. Severson where she served faithfully. She was a faithful member who served in many capacities including volunteering in the secretary’s office and the Vending Machine ministry.

A Time to Be Educated:

She received her formal education in the public schools of Dougherty County, Monroe High School, and Colquitt County, Bethel High School. She further matriculated at Albany State College.

A Time to Love:

She was blessed with three loving and caring children: Deaudervest LaVonda Lakes, De’Marques Leondrae Lakes, and Dontavis LaRoderick Lakes.

A Time to Build Up:

During her lifetime, she impacted the lives of many by giving selflessly. She was employed with the Dougherty County School System, Coates and Clark, and General Motors Delphi Division until her retirement.

A Time to Transition:

The last chapter of Julia’s life was closed when God Almighty called her home to an everlasting rest at her residence on March 1, 2021.

A Time of Peace:

As she enters into an everlasting peace in Heaven, she leaves her legacy, daughter and son-in-law, caregivers—LaVonda and Theotis Gervin; two sons—De’Marques (Termerion) Lakes, Mableton, Georgia; Dontavis (Cheryle) Lakes, Wake Forest, North Carolina; four grandchildren—DeStandreana Norwood, Albany, Georgia; Dristen, Dia & Dylan, Wake Forest, North Carolina; two brothers—Roosevelt (Sandra) Lakes, Covington, Georgia and Larry (Elaine) Lakes, Albany, Georgia; a goddaughter, Verona Few and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
