Juliette Slaton was born to Sarah J. Chatman (deceased) and Nathan Allen, Sr. (deceased) in Albany, Georgia on January 10, 1935.
She attended elementary and secondary Schools in Albany, GA, Dougherty County. Juliette was a pillar of this community and well respected by her family, friends, co-workers and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was an active member of the Rhema International Ministries (RIM). There she served in the seniors ministry (SALT) and supported the prayer ministry. She stayed active in a number of activities such as those provided by the senior citizens’ center of Albany, the AKA Seniors monthly brunch, the YMCA Water Aerobics classes, and her neighborhood community association to ensure the preservation of the quality of the community. She was still employed with the Dougherty County Crossing Guards. Juliette loved learning and whenever possible, she would take classes for seniors to enrich her life. She was a student of the Bible at her church, RIM. She was a model citizen who regularly read the newspaper, and consumed local, state, national and international news. She never missed the opportunity to exercise her right to vote.
Juliette was an avid gardener and pet lover. She was constantly working in her yard growing flowers and plants. Many would ride by and admire how beautiful her flower and vegetable gardens were. Prior to taking ill, she had already set out plants for her spring garden and was looking forward to harvesting the vegetables. She loved making preserves, preparing meals and sharing them with her family, as she was truly a family person.
Juliette was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Johnny James (Bill) Slaton, Sr. To their union were born six children: Katherine Clinton of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Johnny James Slaton, Jr. of Memphis, TN, Gwendolyn Slaton Smith of Ashburn, VA, Carlton Leon Slaton (deceased), Karen Slaton-Dixon of Suwanee, GA, Winta Dean Slaton (deceased); five grandsons, Gary Michael (Ashley) Smith Jr., Walker Andreas Clinton, Kevin Slaton, Kodie Dixon, and Kristopher Majors, and one granddaughter Keelin Dixon; three great-grandsons, Wesley James Michael Smith, Kaiden Rainn Dixon, and Maxwell Leonard Smith. Juliette devoted her life to taking care of children including foster children: Tameka Mathis, Courtney Moore, Santana Mathis, and Michael Brown.
