Karey Douglas Raybon, Jr., affectionately known as “The Baby,” was born December 11, 1931, to the late Karey (1970) and Frankie Raybon (1972) in Pretoria, Georgia. He was the baby of six siblings.
Three siblings preceded him in death, Frank (Lois) Raybon (2004), Beatrice Thrower (2010), and Rosa (Hugh) Robinson (2010). He has two sisters who love him dearly Bessie (Eddie) Raybon Wright and Carey (Erasmus) Raybon Dent.
On December 20, 1952, Karey Douglas Raybon, Jr. met and married the love of his life, Dora Bell Jackson who preceded him in death fourteen days before him on November 18, 2020. To this loving union, six children were born. Three children preceded them in death, Frances (Russel) Bell (2014), Karey Raybon, III (2004), and Quintard Raybon (1977).
He joined the New Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church at the tender age of five years old; it wasn’t a church then, it was simply a bush harbor in Pretoria, GA. He loved this church and served faithfully for over 40 years as Chairman of the Board of Deacons. Our father truly labored while it was day and watched as the Lord made a way. He served until he experienced failing health. Dea. Raybon was the oldest living and longest-serving deacon in the history of New Zion Hill. His favorite hymn was “Jacob’s Ladder” (his bridge between Heaven and Earth).
Deacon Raybon began his work career at Bob’s Candy Co. When he wasn’t working there, he was driving a taxi for Friendly Cab Company where he was co-owner and operator. He later joined the Albany State University (College) staff as a Public Safety Officer for 23 years before retiring in 1992. He was known throughout the campus as “Sarg”. He earned the respect of his colleagues and students because of his dedication and professionalism. After retirement, he enjoyed grooming his yard, planting gardens, and cooking his favorite homestyle meals. He was a great provider, and a dependable father and grandfather.
He leaves to cherish his memories, three loving, well-reared children, Theodore (Lynda) Raybon, Teresa Raybon Anthony, and Angela (Primous) Raybon Wright; generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who loved and respected him; and Bro. Joe Walker, a great friend and Godson.
Well done thou good and faithful servant!
