Kayla Chantel Isom was born on August 11, 2010, to Carmencita Lay and Jovarris Isom in Albany, Georgia. At the age of 6, she confessed Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Arcadia Missionary Baptist Church and has been a faithful member ever since that time. She sang enthusiastically in the Youth Choir; she was a member of the Angels in Motion praise dancers, and she participated in all youth programs and activities of the church.
She began her education at Moultrie Road Headstart. From there, she was enrolled at Morningside Elementary School, where she graduated with honors. She received the Certificate of Completion, Computer Award, Art Award, Highest Average in Math, Highest Average in ELA, Highest Average in Social Studies, Highest Average in Science, Participation Award, and Principal’s Award. At her transition, she was a 7th grader at Radium Springs Middle Magnet School of the Arts. At Radium she was a member of the school’s Chorus, Helping Hands, Blue Harmony, and Girls Talk Mentoring Group. During the 6th grade Honors Day, she received the following awards: Citizenship, Accelerated Reading, ELA, Social Studies, and Science. On her 7th grade 1st nine weeks and final report card, Kayla earned five A’s and 3 B’s. Great job Kayla! Special in her heart was her Chorus teacher, Raquel Ewings.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Cameron Lay; grandfather, Roderick Isom; her great-grandmother, Barbara Raines Brown, and great-grandfather, Curtis Brown.
Left to cherish Kayla’s beautiful memory are her loving and devoted mother, Carmencita Lay, her father, Jovarris (Kanaya) Isom; one brother, She’Derrick Isom; grandmother, Tina Brown (Tyrone) Poole; grandfather, Jerry Lay; grandmother, Katie Isom; aunts, Carmela Lay, Chelsea (Kevin) Bryant; Angelique Brown; Keasia Williams and Alana Poole; uncles Lonnie (Nekesha) Clayton and uncle Delanor Walker; five great uncles, Curtis J. Brown, Elexander Brown, Reginald Brown, Philbert (Freda) Brown and Jason Shands; 1st Cousins, Jordyn Walker; JaMehr Walker, Carter Miller, Journi Brown, Kimori Williams, Kairo Bryant, Kalencia Crawford, Kyndrayvious Clayton, and Kennyson Clayton; Great aunt and godmother, Patricia Charlene Dunlap; step great-grandmother, Vernon Brown, and a host of cousins, relatives, classmates, teachers, and friends.
