Born from the union of Lee Moore, Sr., Eufaula, Alabama, and Georgie McDonald, Columbus, Georgia, on February 16th, 1926. She was aptly named after her father’s brother, Louie Arthur Moore.
Louie was the 6th sibling of twelve children; (6) brothers and (6) sisters. One brother, Harrison Lee Moore, died at an early age.
During her formative years, her parents arranged for her to attend Gillespie-Selden Institute in the City of Cordele, Georgia. She remained there until she graduated in the late forties.
After graduation from Gillespie-Selden Institute, Louie attended Albany State College (ASC) (now known as Albany State University) and bestowed upon her a Bachelor of Science Degree in both Elementary Education and Secretarial Science on June 8, 1959. She was also awarded the coveted Who’s Who in American Colleges as well as the National Honor Society award for her academic achievement during her tenure at Albany State College.
While attending ASC, she fell in love with her future husband, John Allen Marshall, Sr., and they married in June 1946. From this union, she gave birth to two wonderful children, John Allen Marshall, Jr., and Gail Anita Marshall-Fennell. Through marriage, she became mother to Roxie Ealyne Cox and Jimmy Fennel, Sr.
They were grandparents to four grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Tomi Pasquale, the son of John, Jr; Daria, Joy, and Jimmy, Jr., the children of Gail; and Trey, the son of Jimmy, Jr.
Louie worked at ASC as an Administrative Assistant in the comptroller’s office and left after receiving her teaching certificate from the Georgia Department of Education.
In the late forties and early fifties, she also worked for the US Army at Fort Benning as a typist, where she was honored by the Army for her extraordinary typing skills.
In 1969, Louie received her license to teach elementary grades 1–9 from the State of Georgia Department of Education, with supervising teaching service. Louie retired from teaching in the early seventies.
A highly religious person, Louie became a member of the C. K. Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church of Albany, Georgia, and she was a longstanding and active member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She believed in giving and donating to various worthy charitable organizations both locally and internationally. She was witty but firm in her beliefs in being righteous and would speak her mind unapologetically about it.
Louie was preceded in death by her husband, John, Sr.; her daughter, Gail; her grandson, Jimmy Fennell, Jr., and each of her 11 siblings. She lived to be 100 years plus three months of age before she died peacefully in her sleep early morning, Friday, May 29, 2026. She leaves behind her only son, John, Jr.; his wife, Roxie; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and her beloved fifteen-year-old poodle, Kimberly.
She also leaves to mourn her death an army of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends and associates who were fortunate to meet her during her long life. Everyone she met spoke highly of her spunk and tenacity as being genuine.
