Mrs. Marian Hayes Peterson was born February 15, 1941, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Bertha Lee Armstrong Hayes in Albany, GA. Her grandparents, the late Mr. & Mrs. Will and Viola Armstrong, the late Mr. & Mrs. Lewis & Fleeta Hayes, and her parents the late Mr. & Mrs. Robert and Bertha Lee Armstrong Hayes, preceded her in death. She transitioned from this world on Friday, May 10, 2024.
Marian was educated in the public schools of Dougherty County and graduated from Monroe High School in 1959. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Albany State University and her Master's Degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University. She was employed as the Assistant Director of Procurement at Albany State University until her retirement. As a young child, she joined the Arcadia Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Crouch. Marian loved Arcadia and served faithfully as a member of the Young Adult Usher Board, the President of the General Mission, Chairperson of the Trustee Ministry, a Deaconess, and the Financial Secretary for many years. Additionally, she represented Arcadia in the Camilla Baptist Association’s Women’s Auxiliary.
Marian was married for 43 years to the late Wallace Peterson, Sr. until his passing in 2010. She is survived by her three children Alisha Hayes of Albany, GA, Wallace Peterson, Jr. of Decatur, GA, and Amanda (Harvey) Clark of Buford, GA. Her son, the late Michael (Shonda) Peterson of Albany, GA, preceded her in death. She is also survived by two sisters, Fleta Henderson and Rosa Mitchell of Albany, GA; two sisters-in-law, Willie M. Douglas of Detroit, MI and Ossie Peterson of Vienna, GA; six grandchildren, Vannazquela (Justin) White, La’Ashley Peterson, Blake Peterson, Jace Molden, and Sabrina Curry; all of Albany, GA, and Morgan Clark of Buford, GA; three great-grandchildren, Bryce and Nina White and Breyden Perry of Albany, GA; one uncle, J.D. Armstrong of Albany, GA; six stepchildren, Tammy (John) McNair, Windell (Ethel) Jackson, Kenneth Peterson and Michael Floyd of Albany, GA, Caltekee Craig of Powder Springs, GA, and Levander Wiggins of Decatur, GA; four nephews, Bobby (Paula) Henderson of Albany, GA, Demond (Taynae) Wingfield of Conyers, GA, Edward Wingfield, Jr. of Columbus, GA, and Jason (Selinda) Wingfield of San Antonio, TX; three nieces, Crystal Henderson and Kimberly Laster of Albany, GA, and Leah (Sherwin) Lyons of Byron, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
