Martha C. Judge

Martha Carter Judge, 92, of Albany, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026. She was born on March 27, 1933, in Quincy, Florida, to the late Alex and Vertie Carter.  Eleven children were born from this union: Wilbert, Billy, Alphonso, Elvin, Halle, Helen, Marjorie, Thelma, Doris, Augusta, and the youngest, Martha. 

Although she never had biological children of her own, Martha had several children considered family by the heart, not by blood.  She also played an integral role in raising and supporting her many nieces and nephews.

Martha graduated from Bethune-Cookman College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.  She then began a long and steady teaching career in Quincy, Florida, where she married and was preceded in death by Jimmy Holt.

After marrying Dr. Walter Judge, she moved to Albany and continued her career in education until she retired as a home-hospital teacher for children unable to attend school.  She became a widower for the second time in 2017.

Martha was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Tau Chapter in 1953 on the campus of Bethune Cookman College.  She is a life member with 72 active years of membership, which distinguishes her as a “Pearl “member.  At the time of her passing, she was an active member of Delta Eta Omega Chapter.

Her faith has always been very important to her.  Martha was a devoted member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church. She lived her faith openly - sharing it freely, serving faithfully, and supporting others in times of need.

The family appreciates her wonderful caregivers for their compassionate care.  Thanks to them, she was able to spend her final days in the comforts of her home.
