Otis “Cornbread” Griffin’s journey began on October 28, 1945, in Albany, GA. Born to the late Milton, Sr. and Fannie Roberts Griffin.
Otis was a natural-born athlete. He excelled in baseball as an awesome infield player. He shined as he covered shortstop and 3rd base. In recognition of his outstanding performance, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Macon, GA, in 2004. In addition to being a baseball player, he was an avid swimmer, jet skier, and lifeguard for many years.
Cornbread loved and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a family man. Besides outdoor sports, he also loved bowling and playing spades with family and friends. He was an enthusiastic and confident salesman. He sold cars, insurance, hair care products, and hosiery for many years.
More importantly, he loved the Lord, Otis was baptized at 2nd Mt. Zion Baptist Church and served many years on the Men’s Ministry.
On Friday, January 27, 2023, Otis transitioned from his earthly home to live eternity with the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Earnest Griffin, Roscoe Griffin, Jimmy Griffin, Bennie Griffin, Eddie Griffin, Sr., and Milton Griffin, Jr.; and five sisters, Essie Mae Massengill, Pauline Robinson, Sarah Glover, Elizabeth Gaines, and Ozie Dell Wright.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Celestine Griffin; one daughter, Kimberly Griffin; two sons, Daryl Griffin (Atlanta, GA), and Quintavous Griffin; two bonus sons, Ronell Tidwell, and Adolphus Dawson; four grandsons, Brenten Wimberly, Christopher Griffin, JaQuon Tinch, and Quintavous Griffin, Jr.; two sisters, Barbara White (Hilton Head, SC) and Del Marie (Jonathan) Judge; one brother, Monroe (Yolanda) Griffin (Dade City, FL); five sisters-in-law, Yvonne Griffin (Atlanta, GA), Gwendolyn Griffin, Jacquelyn P. Griffin, Barbara (Terry) Coleman (Cincinnati, OH), and Octavia Tidwell (Cincinnati, OH); four brothers-in-law, Robert Wright (Atlanta, GA), James Tidwell (Gainesville, GA), Tyrone Tidwell (Cincinnati, OH), and Gregory Tidwell (Cincinnati, OH); a special nephew and caregiver, Robert Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
