Raashea Hinton Obituary

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven”  Ecclesiastes 3:1

A Time to Be Born – On February 4, 1972, Annie Lizza Hention and Eugene Harry Smith were blessed with the birth of twin sons, Raashea and Raashon. The younger twin, Raashea, was affectionately known as “Shea” to his family and called “Twin” by his friends. Sharp-minded and particular about how things should be done (always his way), he was deeply cherished by all who knew him.

Raashea received his education in the Dougherty, Fulton, and Clayton County School Systems, where he and his twin brother made a name for themselves on the football field. After his years at Riverdale High School, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was blessed with two beautiful children. In the mid-1990s, he returned to Georgia to care for his mother following her stroke.

A Time to Serve – At an early age, Raashea accepted Christ and, alongside his twin brother, was baptized at his grandparents’ church, Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Though life brought its challenges and struggles, he was never beyond the reach of God’s grace and always knew his help came from the Lord.

A Time to Reflect – When we remember Shea, we see a handsome, charming young man who, alongside his twin, drew attention wherever he went. Surrounded by the unwavering love of his devoted mother, Ann, and his caring aunts, uncles, and cousins, Shea grew up rooted in a family rich with faith, love, and hope.

Shea’s personality shone brightly—passionate, witty, humorous, and a stubborn streak that made him uniquely him. He never hesitated to express his love and gratitude, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. In his later years, health challenges affected his physical abilities, but they did not diminish his indomitable spirit. By the grace of God, he faced each day with determination and resilience, inspiring all who witnessed his strength. Truly, he carried the strength of two men, and his memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who loved him.

A Time to Die – On Saturday, September 20, 2025, Raashea answered his eternal call, having fought the good fight and remained steadfast to the very end. He was preceded in death by his devoted mother, Annie Sommerville, and his beloved twin brother, Raashon Hention. Also preceding him were his father, Eugene Smith; grandparents, Mathew and Violet Hention; aunts, Ellen Parker, Gloria Jones, and Lois Nelson; and uncles, Calvin, Bobby, and Thomas Hention, John L. Jones, Bill Smith, and L.T. Quarles.

A Time to Mourn – Raashea leaves behind to cherish his memory: his son, Oshay Tate; daughter, Angel Tate; and precious granddaughter, Kiyomi Tate, all of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by his sister, Andoria Smith of Detroit, MI; brother, Rocky Smith of Woodlands, TX; and nieces, Jazmyne and Shelbi Smith of Detroit, MI.

His legacy continues in the hearts of two aunts, Ruth Quarles and Carol Smith of Detroit, MI; special cousins, Gregory Jones (Renay) and Victor Jones of Albany, GA, Hiram Jones (Jimesia) of Stockbridge, GA, Tongie Leonce (Ken) of Allen, TX, and Ann Jones of Beaufort, SC. He also shared an unbreakable bond with his devoted bonus sister, Yolanda “Lamp” Williams, and niece, Colliereeneka Brown of Albany, GA, along with a host of loving family and friends.

Raashea’s presence was a gift, his laughter a joy, and his love an everlasting treasure. His spirit will live on in all those who were blessed to know him.

A Time for Eternal Rest“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7
