Mrs. Rosa Lee Newsome McGhee was born on July 4, 1927, in Reynolds, Georgia, to the late Mr. Charlie Newsome and Mrs. Mary Newsome-Spencer. She received her early education in the public schools of Taylor County. In later years her family moved to Albany, GA, where she completed her public-school education at Tift Street Elementary School and Madison High School. She enrolled in Albany State where she received a bachelor's degree in elementary education and later received a master's degree in middle grades education at Georgia State University. She was also a certified reading and adult education specialist.
Mrs. McGhee met and married the love of her life, Floyzell McGhee, Sr. To this union three children were born. She started her teaching career in 1953 in Taylor County and retired in Dougherty County after 40 years of nurturing many students. She was a member of Hines Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she served faithfully until her health declined. She sang in the Julia Davis Senior Choir, served as a stewardess, missionary, christian educator, church secretary and church historian/librarian.
Mrs. McGhee was preceded in death by her husband; mother; father; brother, William; step-daughter, Jewel; grandsons Decarlos and Robert; great-grandson, Alex; great-great-granddaughter, Kendall; and a cousin, Sarah, who was more like a sister.
She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter, Darol; two loving sons, Floyzell, Jr. (Butch) and Derek; 11 sweet Grandchildren, Michael, Tori, Telisa, Demetrius, Zacharian, Jabari, Masaalih, Aneesa, Janine, Gregory, and Kennedi; an awesome caretaker, BJ and a myriad of great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.
