Ms. Rosa Mae Merritt McLain, affectionately known as “Rose”, began life’s journey on February 27, 1950, to the late Odell and Agnes Merritt in Preston, Georgia.
Rose was educated in the Dougherty County School System and graduated from Monroe High School, Class of 1968. She subsequently attended Lincoln Business School in Orlando, Florida, and Albany Technical School.
Her mother instilled in her to always love the Lord and her church. Rose confessed Christ at an early age and joined Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church where she was a dedicated and faithful member for over 50 years. She worked diligently in church serving on the Trustee Board as well as the Decorating Committee until her health began to decline.
Rose was united in holy matrimony to the late Edward Frank McLain on June 15, 1973. To this union, son, Xavier Dewayne McLain was born, in addition to elder son, Vernorris “Sweet Pea” Merritt.
For over 20 years, Rose worked for Ayers Aviation Corporation before becoming a self-employed Master Seamstress and Interior Decorator. Her classy style was unmatched, as she was known to dress to impress with her stylish hats and matching suits.
Rose showed kindness and love while bringing a smile to the faces of everyone she met. However, she was never afraid to speak her mind whenever she wanted to. Rose was a devoted mother who cherished her children and grandchildren. She loved to spend time with family and friends, but most of all, her spirited and creative ways will be greatly missed, and always remembered.
God plucked his beautiful Rose on the morning of Saturday, April 15, 2023.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: sons, Vernorris Merritt and Xavier McLain, Sr.; grandchildren: Xavier McLain, Jr. of Albany, GA, Kiyara McLain of Stockbridge, GA, Norian and Xavion Clinton, both of Albany, GA, and Cassidy McLain of Tallahassee, FL; great-grandchildren Mariah, Madison, and Zayden; brothers, Wali Merritt and Alonzo Merritt, both of Albany, GA; sister, Elizabeth Livingston of Decatur, GA; dedicated niece, Veronica Robinson (Lorenzo) of Stone Mountain, GA; daughter-in-love, Eurkita “Dee” Ford, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and church family.
