Socie Bell Lockett was born on February 7, 1925, to the late Thornton and Jimmy Lockett.
Socie graduated from Terrell County High School, Dawson, GA. She briefly enrolled at Albany State College. She was employed at Bob’s Candy Company in 1956. She retired 45 years later.
She met and married Willie Morris in February of 1945. From that union, they had six lovely children. She had the immense joy of seeing four of her children become baptized servants of Jehovah. All who are serving Jehovah to this day.
On September 23, 1976, after a serious study of the Bible, Socie was happily baptized as a servant of Jehovah God. She cited this as one of the best decisions of her life. She was often quoted as saying, “If you don’t have Jesus and Jehovah in your life, you don’t have anything.”
Socie took her dedication and. Baptism to Jehovah to heart by pioneering. This she continued until her death. She was admired and loved by many of the people she spoke with, especially the ones in the Albany downtown area. Many times, during her public street ministry, residents would offer to buy her lunch or coffee. She was truly blessed with several Bible students some of whom dedicated their lives to Jehovah as well. Teaching people about the Bible was her passion. She had a newspaper article written about her in the Albany Herald on Sunday, October 6, 2022, titled “Everybody Has a Story to Tell.” Socie always trusted in Jehovah’s Word and looked forward to seeing her loved ones in Paradise.
Socie was a very doting and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. To say she loves gardening and flowers would be a huge understatement. Her yard was admired by many in her neighborhood. Strangers would stop by while she was out in the yard to compliment her on her beautiful landscape.
Socie’s oldest son, Willie Marlon Morris, passed away on August 15, 2014. Additionally, all her siblings, Wilhelmina Lockett Peters, Bertha Mae Kimbrough, Eugene Lockett, and Thornton Lockett, passed away before her death.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her loving and devoted children: Billy Morris (Albany), Gladys J. (Arthur) Bell (Lakeland, FL), Ann Thomas (Albany), Patsy (Josh) Williams (Albany), and Gwendolyn Thompson (Atlanta); her loving precious niece whom she regards as a daughter, Edith (Aaron) Newell, Miami; her grandchildren: Roderick Morris, Gregory Morris, Cedrick Morris, Curtis Morris, Felicia Makee, Terrance (Robin) Bell, David (Bianca) Bell, Duane E. (Sedria) Thomas, Brian Thomas, Angela Thomas, Contrell (Jodie) Brown, Reshard (SheKeyla) Morris, and Reanna Morris; great-grandchildren, Daylin Orr, Kyrie Lattimore, Kamden Lattimore, Korbyn Lattimore, and Karter Lattimore; and a host of cousins and other relatives.
