Mrs. Vanette Johnson was born to Aaron and Johnny B. Jones on January 2, 1937, in Albany, Georgia. She had nine siblings, and eight preceded her in death (Mamie Lue, Pearlie, Aaron, Jr. “Pop,” Billie, Bobby, Johnnie B., Richard “Shelly” and Bertha). She attended Albany Public Schools, where she met the love of her life, Johnnie L. Johnson, III, in the 6th grade at Carver Jr. High. They later married in 1956 at the age of 18 and enjoyed 68 years of marriage. Anyone who knew them witnessed their love and dedication to each other. Two sons were born to this union, Gregory “Greg” and Kenneth “Kenny.”
Vanette formed a relationship with the Lord at an early age, which grew stronger throughout her life with Johnnie. She and Johnnie faithfully attended House of God Saints in Christ, where they raised their sons, served on many committees, and led marriage ministry classes. It was important to both of them to be role models and provide support for other couples. Vanette and Johnnie later joined Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she served on several committees.
Vanette retired from Flint Industrial after 30+ years of service, during which she diligently served as a supervisor. She enjoyed supporting her team and built lasting friendships with many people she worked with throughout her career.
Precious memories will forever be cherished by her loving husband, Johnnie, who faithfully cared for her until her death, and her two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg Johnson (Jackie) and Kenny Johnson (Donna). Vanette leaves her sister Dorothy “Dot” Allen (Jesse); grandchildren: Michael Johnson (Tawana), Cameron Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Danielle Johnson, Kristiane Johnson, and Amaris Johnson; great-grandchildren: Kamela King, Shayla Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Mikayla Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Jr., Emani Johnson, Harlem Johnson, Kyrie Johnson, Klay Johnson, and Kobe Johnson. Fond memories will also be cherished by her brothers and sisters through marriage: James “Teddy” Johnson, Eva Williams, Ethel Washington (Joe), Robert Johnson (Janie), and Walter Johnson (Deborah). She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Carolyn Nealy. Vanette also leaves many nieces, nephews, relatives, and life-long friends who will forever cherish her memory.
