Walter Lee Cowart, Sr., known to many as “Walt Lee”, was born March 4, 1946, to the late Sol Cowart, Sr. and the late Annette Cowart.
Walt Lee accepted Christ at an early age. He was a long-time member of First Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Newton, Georgia, where he served as the notable president of the usher board not to mention being an humble and faithful servant of Christ. Walt Lee loved God, and he loved to say, “Ain’t God Good.” He often quoted Psalms 23 throughout the day and night while he was hospitalized before succumbing to his death on March 30th.
Walt Lee worked at Bob Candies in Albany, Georgia, for 46 years before retiring alongside his best friend, Drew Coe. After retiring, he lived a carefree life, and he helped as many people as he could by fixing their automobiles, lawnmowers, etc. And if he couldn't, he would definitely recommend someone who could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Tawanda, Dorothy Jean and Joanna Cowart; and his brothers, Charlie Cowart, Leroy (Yvonne) Cowart, Sr. and SJ (late Mendell ) Cowart.
His memory will be cherished by his beautiful and adored wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Cowart; their children Carolyn (Roderick) Jones, Rosalyn (late Kirby) Scott, Tasha, Latoya, and Walter Jr. (Stephanie) Cowart, Patricia (Clinton) Barber, Angela Carter, and Cherry (Ricky) Scott; his siblings, Clarence (Frances) Cowart, David(Marva) Cowart, Moses Sr. (Bessie) Cowart, and Missouri Cowart; a brother-in-law, Walter (Caldonia) Carter; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Cowart, and Jessie Carter; and a host of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.
