William McWhite of Albany, GA passed away on November 12, 2024. He is survived by daughters Kertrisa R. McWhite, MD, Attorney Karen R. McWhite, co-parent Willie Rean Jackson McWhite, granddaughter Aurora D. McWhite, and grandson Liam W. McWhite. He is also survived by siblings Lucille Robinson Renfroe and Howard McWhite, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins from the McWhite, Bennett, and Jackson families, the ROMEOs, his Mt. Zion Baptist Church family, and friends who were like family.
William was preceded in death by his parents Charlie McWhite and Larlie Bennett McWhite and siblings Louise, Billy, Nathaniel, Henry, Carrie, Clinton, Issiebell, Anniebell, Irene, Essie Mae, Clifton, Clarence, Shelly, and Jimmy.
William began his education at Lincoln Brown Elementary School in Meigs GA and completed his secondary education at Magnolia High School in Thomasville, GA, graduating with the class of 1961. William built the foundation of his faith while attending Morning Star Baptist Church, Meigs, GA. William served in the United States Army before later attending Albany State University. William believed strongly in a good education and made certain to support and encourage his children, grandchildren, and others on their educational journeys.
He was a long-time employee of Firestone Tires and later worked at the Marine Corp Logistics Base In Albany before retiring in 2001. William liked to dream big and was able to see the world by traveling to Brazil, South Africa, and Ireland with his children and grandchildren.
He had a green thumb and was known for his love of gardening and maintaining his lawn. He enjoyed biking and walking. In his free time, William loved going out to breakfast and for coffee with friends. He enjoyed “visiting the elderly” as he called it and often drove friends to appointments and ran their errands. William loved to make his favorite dessert, banana pudding, as often as he could. He kept a watchful eye out for his neighbors and neighborhood and if he wasn’t doing any of those things he would pass the time cruising around Albany. William loved to spend his mornings calling his friends and family to check in for a quick chat, and everyone had a set time. William’s laugh, smile, and those quick chats will greatly be missed.
