Willie Bell Streeter Spurlin, affectionally known to her family as “Duck” was born in Fort Gaines, GA, on April 15, 1945. She departed this life on March 28, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of the late Albert Lee Streeter and Virgil Lee Brown.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a faithful member of the River Road, now the Church of Christ at Gaines Avenue. She loved her church family, and they loved her. Kind, considerate, and loving were just a few words that described her. She enjoyed life and was eager to share whatever she had with others. She had a great love for plants and this was evident in the many plants she had in and around her home.
In 1969, Willie Bell married the love of her life, Nathaniel Spurlin. Nathaniel, her father, her mother, a daughter, three sisters, three brothers, a niece, and a nephew, all preceded her in death.
From a child, Willie Bell was very active. She attended the Georgetown, Clay County, School System. She moved from Fort Gaines, Clay County, GA, to Leesburg, GA, where she worked as an agricultural worker. She later moved to Albany where she worked diligently in housekeeping at the Ramada Inn for many years until her retirement in 1979.
She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Richard Streeter of Albany; a granddaughter, Sheniquewa Streeter; one great-grandson, Otis Fleming, Jr., both of Albany; three sisters, Rose Streeter of Albany, Charlie Curry, and Ann Streeter, both of Newark, NJ; three brothers, Ira Streeter, Randy Streeter, and James Streeter, all of Newark, NJ; four sisters-in-law, Annie Pearl Spurlin of Albany, Rosalyn Streeter of Montclair, NJ, Sheron Streeter, and Marian Streeter, both of Newark, NJ; one special nephew, Maurice Streeter, who was very dear to her heart; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
